news > 02 March 2008 Mothers Day DemoOn Mothers Day campaigners held a dairy free milk give away. The aim being to highlight the plight of the dairy cow and her off spring on a day when peoples minds are on the mother and child bond. This was held on the South Bank were many people out celebrating Mothers Day. One campaigner wore a cow costume and held a banner saying “Mothers want their babies back”. Others gave out samples of different dairy free milks, including chocolate flavoured soya milk, oat and rice milk. Dairy free chocolate was also given away. Leaflets explaining the cruelty involved in the dairy industry and its connection with the veal industry were given to everyone who stopped for samples and many of the passers by. Most people seemed receptive to the distress caused when a calf is taken from his or her mother. Hopefully it will make them think next time they are considering drinking cows milk.
